Food Safety Tips

I feel this subject is important and I want to share what I know with you my readers. In my community a local Chinese place recently had a visit by the state health inspector and they made a 50 on it. They are now on a monitor closely list where they have so many days/months to get their standards back up to state standards or decide to close. That is part of the reason for this blog. We live in a society where people are always in a hurry and they do not want to cook. I know people that will say even though I got a slight stomach ache and felt sick I would go back and eat there again. That mentality is everywhere. We all know someone that has said that. I know a few people that even though they got a little sick once or twice will go back to the same places they got sick from. Why? I have been in the hospitality business for 11 years. I annoy people I am with when we go out to eat because I look for things. And if you tell me you ate somewhere and got sick from it guess what I am not going. People have the same mentality when it comes to grocery stores too, but that is another blog post. So what I am about to share with you is things you should look for when you go out to eat and if any of your friends tell you that some restaurant made them sick before you go eat there look for these few things or ask to see them.

First look around for certificates that are supposed to be in customer sight they are called servsafe certifications in some states something else is required look and see how many people are certified in that restaurant. In some states some places have to have at least 4 or 5 people certified and make sure they are current if you see them.

Second thing to look for or ask for find their last DPH visit sheet or ask to see their last health inspector visit. Most places have them to where you can see them they are required to do that by law. If they are not making 85 or better. DO NOT EAT THERE.

Thirdly there are little things you can see around you that will let you know whether or not to keep eating there. Ask yourself is your own kitchen either nasty/clean.

It may annoy some fast food places but for your own safety ask them to cook your food fresh.
