When Your Job Becomes More Like a Soap Opera Than Your Job

Many of us has had or still working at a job that is more dramatic than a soap opera and does not feel like your job. It happens when your boss hires their friends or associates and your boss is just hiring them as a favor or just to fill in a gap but they do not have the skills to do the job. But instead of coming to work to work they simply bring their drama to work and pull others into it. I have been in this situation where my boss hires friends or associates and the job turns into their own little party place or a place to settle what they have going on in their personal lives. It can lead to a human resource nightmare and it also leads to high turnover rates due to your serious workers feeling like they are being treated like crap and the friends who do nothing are untouchable. And you cannot report your boss to his superiors because of simple intimidation and he has already told lies to all of his superiors about how awesome he/she is and the rest of his or her team is simply untrustworthy crap.

I am still dealing with this at my job. Everytime I think it leaves when a store manager leaves it always comes back with the new. It gets old when the "deadwood" gets their way and the ones who need the job and work hard at what they do leave.

It is situations like this that has made me hate going to work and not trusting the people I work with. I work with some sticky fingered people and they are hard to catch. I stay stressed out when I am at work and this is why I do not work very many hours. It is also the main reason I am back in school and trying to find another job. I just cannot and simply will not deal with it anymore.

Laptop Project Update

How many of you remember the picture above from the Compaq Presario I was working on recently?

I finished it and returned it to its owner to get the picture below. My $40 pay to repair it.
The laptop had a minor fan error. It had a good size piece of debris in it. And since it was my first working project and since it was my best friend's fiancee computer. I was not going to charge them the suggested price of about $110. Since laptops are so much harder to do and the parts are smaller and more expensive to get. Well my friend before paying me had the nerve to try and get out of paying me the full $40 by challenging me to a game of classic Mortal Kombat. The deal was going to be if he won he paid me $20 and my reply was if I won he paid me $60. All I wanted was my $40 and be on my way but nope was not going to be that easy. So after a few minutes and his fiancee scared that I would take the laptop and walk out she intervened and I got my $40. If the argument had continued I was going to take the laptop with me and straight to a pawn shop. I had done a factory reset anyway so all of her stuff was off of it.

I am proud of making my first $40 doing computer repair. I wish I could of framed those $20's but since I am having to commute for school they both got used for gas. So here is to the memory of those 20's.

Blue Screen of Death

All of us has seen a version of the blue screen of death, like the one in the picture attached. But very few know what it truly means when you see this. Alot of people freak out when this screen pops up.

So what does it mean? Some say it is the death of your computer plan and simple. But if you ask a computer technician what it means it is all based on the error codes you see towards the bottom of the screen if you see any at all. From what people have said to me about it, what it means is that your hard drive has been so badly corrupted with viruses that it shuts the computer down. Others say your hard drive has simply quit functioning. But all agree that you have to look up the error codes to truly find out why you have the blue screen of death. In the case of the computer in the photo the hard drive just died. The computer was OLD anyway.

So how many of you have seen this screen before?

A Wrestling Fan No More

I recently used a blog about me being a 30 year wrestling fan as my throwback Thursday blog post. I enjoyed wrestling during that time period. But in the past few months I decided to quit watching it and keeping up with it. I got tired of it. The major companies were basically rehashing old ideas from the past or the recent past. The story lines as of late had gotten drab and boring to me. So I unsubscribed to all of the YouTube channels and I do not go to the websites anymore. I remember when wrestling was great and everything fresh. Now it is just tired and boring. Since WWE killed all of the competition they only mainly compete with themselves. TNA will eventually be like WCW and shut down. Ring of Honor has some potential but it is hard to keep up with them without having to pay just to see their TV shows online. None of the major channels around my area do not show ROH.

So I will always remember the good old days of wrestling. I am going to let the younger fans who probably have not seen past footage of wrestling enjoy it.

Debating "God Damn it" with a Christian

I was at work one night, and as always a customer got on my nerves. I was in the back fussing and said "God damn it". So this started a debate with one of my Christian coworkers who took offense to me saying it. The coworker knew I was an Atheist.

So I got the usual reply about how I should not say it and using the Lord's name in vain, and the usual stuff I hear on a regular basis. Then out of nowhere they began to debate my "Atheism" by claiming since I am using the Lord's name in vain then I still do in away believe in God and religion. Then like most typical Chirstians they wanted to debate me why I no longer believe in God and religion. And of course also would not let me get a word in edgewise. So after what seemed an eternity of the mindless debating or total lack there of. My reply was simple. First off the use of God damn it has nothing to do with using his name in vain, and secondly it is used in anger due to certain situations, especially if you live in the South. I have been using God damn it forever even when I was a Christian. And finally I told them unlike them I do not have to force my beliefs on others and not listen to what others are telling them. I do not force my views on the world down others throats. You believe in what you want to believe, even though it blinds people to the truth that no one wants to see, and I believe what I want to believe.

I am a strong believer in logic and reason.

Computer Blog: Laptop Project

A friend of mine called me over the weekend and wanted to know if I could come and check out two laptops he had. One is a Dell and the other is a Compaq Presario. His fiancee was more concerned about the Compaq because it was the only one out of the two that worked. Her complaint about it was that when you turn it on it was coming up with a fan error. So I took both the laptops and began looking at both of them.

The Dell is a total lost cause because I think the motherboard is shot or the hard drive is one. So I sat that one to the side to work on later. I may try to put in another laptop hard drive and go from there with the Dell.

The picture above is the Compaq Presario broken down except for the monitor. This took some time since this is my first project/repair so I was trying to be extremely careful. Plus I was nervous during the breakdown because compared to the "practice laptops" in class this one actually works. I now understand why computer technicians charge so much to work on a laptop. They are more compact compared to a desktop. There are alot of screws and as you move through the laptop they get smaller. I made it to the motherboard and got to the fan. I took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. So in the next day or so I hope to have it back together and I hope it will turn back on.

Robin Williams: R.I.P.

Robin Williams was a very funny comedian/actor. His passing was a tragic one. He lost his battle with depression and committed suicide via hanging.

I remember growing up watching Mork and Mindy, a sitcom that starred Williams as the alien Mork. It was a funny show and if you have not seen it go find it on Netflix or whatever you can stream it on. He had made alot of funny and some serious movies during his career. I know that movies like Ms. Doubt-fire, What Dreams May Come, Aladdin, and Hook are all showing up on people's favorite list of William's movies. Some never mention Good Morning Vietnam, Cadillac Man,  Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Jumanji, and the list goes on.

But what angers me about all of this is when news outlets and Christian groups add their commentary. I found out recently that an anchor on Fox news called Williams a coward for taking his own life. Christian groups are starting the whole he will burn in hell for all eternity because he took his own life. It is insulting to me what people say about other people when something tragic happens.

He took his own life due to depression/mental illness. People are claiming that they never knew he was depressed or troubled. Some people are good at hiding it. He was a celebrity, but he is also a person like all of us too.

Computer Blog: An Update

How many of you remember this picture from a few months ago? Here is the update.

This is a HP Pavilion A305W desktop computer that I purchased for only $5 because it was going to be scrapped and I needed a computer to practice with at home. Yes it was dusty and dirty and I honestly did not think I was going to get it to work ever again.

I took it to the school I attend this was a couple of months ago. During the time this blog was on hiatus, this is why there are no pictures of the parts and what not. I plugged it in and it powered up and then it turned itself off. First diagnosis of this was either the motherboard or the power supply to the computer. So the power supply was removed and another one was put it. It powered up and it was wanting to stay on but it was turning itself off. So after some more trouble shooting and taking the computer completely apart. It was determined that the little plastic button on the front faceplate of the computer was the issue now. So a new spring was put into the button. Once again it was turned on and finally it was staying on. IT WAS ALIVE!!!

So after going through the software and discovering that the former owner was going to throw out a decent computer. Yes it runs Windows XP and it obviously has not had the security updates downloaded. The other issue that was discovered with this was the Cd drive was broken. It would not open at all. It was discovered after it was taken out of the computer case that a CD was broken in the drive. A piece of CD fell out of it while it was being taken out of the case. So it now has a new power supply and a new cd rom drive. It is put back together and running fine. I also did a factory reset to clear everything off of it.

So now I begin my portfolio.

Out of Exile

So how do I start this blog post since I have been away from blogging for nearly two months. To be honest I almost decided to quit blogging all together and just leave my blog on a high note, but after alot of thought just falling off the face of the blogging planet would not be fair to you, my readers. I lost interest in blogging, mainly due to I could not think of things to write about, and the second reason is life got in the way. I was too busy. I could not think of anything interesting to write about. I had lost my focus for doing this little blog. And to my surprise there were some people who found some of the older blogs interesting and reading them.
So my readers if I still have readers left. If you are wondering where I have been during my blog's hiatus. I have been dealing with all the usual things that I have mentioned in my past blogs. I have been trying to keep my composure and sanity in my little world. School keeps me focused and that is part of the reason why this blog faded away. I did not decide to go on hiatus, it just happened. My life away from school and blogging also got in the way. There were days that I simply did not feel like doing anything. I hope that some of you understand how I felt.

Now the question you are all asking is am I going to continue with this blog or is this post possibly my last? When I first logged on to this account I had thoughts of just saying good bye and either shut down this account in a few months or I would of just let goople sweep it away. I am amazed that google has not swept this blog away. But after logging on to this account and seeing that there was still a pulse. I have decided that I am going to continue this blog, but I will not be posting near as much as I used to. Not for awhile anyway until I get my groove back. So please be patient with me, and plus I am still in school so that is the main focus. I am also not wanting to burn myself out again feeling like I have to blog every single day. That is why I ran out of things to write about.

I am back, not at full writing capacity however.
