Computer Blog: An Update

How many of you remember this picture from a few months ago? Here is the update.

This is a HP Pavilion A305W desktop computer that I purchased for only $5 because it was going to be scrapped and I needed a computer to practice with at home. Yes it was dusty and dirty and I honestly did not think I was going to get it to work ever again.

I took it to the school I attend this was a couple of months ago. During the time this blog was on hiatus, this is why there are no pictures of the parts and what not. I plugged it in and it powered up and then it turned itself off. First diagnosis of this was either the motherboard or the power supply to the computer. So the power supply was removed and another one was put it. It powered up and it was wanting to stay on but it was turning itself off. So after some more trouble shooting and taking the computer completely apart. It was determined that the little plastic button on the front faceplate of the computer was the issue now. So a new spring was put into the button. Once again it was turned on and finally it was staying on. IT WAS ALIVE!!!

So after going through the software and discovering that the former owner was going to throw out a decent computer. Yes it runs Windows XP and it obviously has not had the security updates downloaded. The other issue that was discovered with this was the Cd drive was broken. It would not open at all. It was discovered after it was taken out of the computer case that a CD was broken in the drive. A piece of CD fell out of it while it was being taken out of the case. So it now has a new power supply and a new cd rom drive. It is put back together and running fine. I also did a factory reset to clear everything off of it.

So now I begin my portfolio.
