So recently it has been announced that if you have a Microsoft 365 account that copilot was being added to the office products.
Copilot is the artificial intelligence or AI that Microsoft has been adding to their products. If you are on a Windows 11 PC there is a button for Copilot. If you use Microsoft Edge, Microsoft's web browser, it has a copilot button. And now they are adding it to the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). If you are on their Microsoft 365 account the version that anyone can pay $69.99 a year for, with them adding Copilot the price is about to go up to $100 a year.
I have been paying $69.99 a year to use office for awhile. The reason is with Microsoft's current model they do not want anyone buying a software license, which by the way now starts at $200 for software that Microsoft may end support for in three years. I do not use the cloud versions of the office suite and with the $69.99 a year I can download office on at least five computers and I do not have to worry about updates or having to buy a new software license.
Now my loyal reader that is probably wondering why I am writing a blog about this.
I did not get the option to opt out of getting copilot added to my office suite. And I did not want a $30 price increase to my yearly subscription for something that I am going to try to avoid using like the plague. I do not need AI in everything that I do on a daily basis. I mean I understand that it is supposed to make people more productive and improve their writing. But I already have Grammerly for that and it is not constantly in my face like Copilot will be.
Are there alternatives to dealing with this yes. I am learning one of course, but it has a learning curve that will take awhile to get the full use of it. It is called Libreoffice. It is FREE and it can be easily found by Google searching it.
So I know that some of you are asking how to avoid it in other products like Microsoft Edge. I use Google Chrome, Firefox, I am possibly looking at downloading and using the Brave browser.
There are plenty of alternatives out there you just have to be willing to search for it and be open to learn something new.
