A local community in a very small unincorporated town in my area announced last year in order to save money that they were dissolving their police force. So that meant that the Sheriff's office in that county has to now patrol in detail that little town. So recently it was announced that the crime rate has gone up. And the Sheriff's department is needing more officers to patrol this little town.
So I can see that the town was trying to cut some things to save money but I think they could of found other things to cut. Now are a result of their stupid decision their crime rate is going up and now their is an unneeded strain on money and officers on a county wide level to make up the difference in public safety.
Another local community near me has a City Police Department, a County Police Department, and a Sheriff's office. The issue that town is having is that the County Police Department can not keep officers on the payroll because they are the lowest paying public safety unit in that community and the city leader's can not or will not debate consolidating the police departments or give the unit a better pay per officer I say consolidate the two police departments and put the county officers on city pay rate per officer.
